This and That

Well, the kids have been in school for a while now (little over a month) and to my surprise we're all adjusting well to our busy schedule, soccer, fast-pitch softball, arts and crafts and tumbling!

Our son just started Pre-K and he's doing great, I am so proud of him and he's loving it. Even though he has a bit of a hard time getting up, once he's out of the shower he's ready to go!!

Our daughter is in 2nd grade and doing well, too. I'm left with my little one at home and she's loving our time alone together, it's been fun!

Business has been picking up really well and I'm excited about that!! So, I'm going to add a few more days to my production time. I'm taking a few classes here and there about marketing, branding etc. and a fun one too, on Butterfly Release.

I don't think I'm going to be incorporating that into my biz, but I thought it would be something fun to learn and our oldest daughter is into butterflies all of a sudden, so much so she wants a butterfly garden. ...note to self learn how to do one.. that'll be a fun project to do with her and the kids.

Last but not least...I have sold my Letterpress, to a young woman that I am delighted about!
She's coming from Iowa and she's a photographer and has been wanting one for a long time. I am looking forward to it going to a good home....poor thing has just been sitting in my garage!

Down Memory Lane

My kids were having some ice cream today, so I decided to join them, now my favorite ice cream is Butter Pecan, but I thought I would have some Neopolitan instead. When I had the first bitethe first thought I had was when I still lived in Jersey we would go to the beach all time and have Neopolitan Ice Cream, hmmm I can still smell it and the warm waffles on the ice cream were the best.....how I miss those.

T.V. Appearance update

Exciting News

I have some exciting news to share our baby yard signs and baby bundles might be on TLC's Bringing Home Baby!! If you haven't heard about the show (which I hadn't, I was only aware of A Baby Story) someone comes over to your home for a few days after your baby is born and helps you feed, burp, hold etc. your newborn.

Why did I say might, well because what if they edit the tape and not show, my signs, oh gosh I hope not!! This is such a great opportunity! Anyway, long story short back in June I did a "Baby Shower" yard sign for the new mommy, her mother-in-law called me over the weekend to order a baby bundle and she told me that her son and daughter-in-law are currently being filmed for the show so I offered a complimentary yard sign as well.

I'll find out more information maybe by tomorrow, the yard sign is still at the couples home. I'm going to call them tomorrow, once TLC is done filming I'm picking him up....just in case you're wondering "him" is the yard sign. Yes, they had a baby boy!

Autumn and Pears Bridal Shower Invitation

Here is an Autumn Invitation that was recently designed for a client, we changed the original background of the invitation from a leaf to a couple of pears as well as changed the wording to reflect a Bridal Shower. These invitations look lovely.

Batido Colada anyone?

I was watching Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello on the Food TV Network yesterday and he prepared a colada that looks so gooood. I went and bought the ingredients today!

Here's the recipe from Food TV...

1 small papaya, seeded and chopped
1 mango, pitted and chopped
2 cups peeled, cored and roughly chopped pineapple
2 small sweet ripe bananas, peeled and roughly chopped
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 1/2 cups coconut milk
2 tablespoons sugar
12 large ice cubes
2 tablespoons heavy cream
3/4 cup white rum

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour and enjoy.

He did mention to cut the pineapple into small pieces so you have less, if any pineapple strings.

Can't wait to try it out! I'll have to give the Caribbean meal that went along with it as well.

Baby Arrival and Baby Shower Yard Signs

We've been working on these cuties for a while now. They are yard signs or yard displays so you can announce a baby shower or a baby arrival. If you rent one of the babies to announce an arrival you or the recipient will be able to keep the bear which will be personalized. For a baby shower, the bear will say "Baby Shower is Here". If you don't have a yard we also have Baby Door Bundles.

Here are is a "Message in a Bottle Invitation" that I designed for a customer recently to celebrate an upcoming graduation. They came out very nice with the burnt edges, glitter, sand, seashells, pineapple & palm tree confetti!! As an added touch the rsvp card was perforated, making it easy to return to the graduate.

Surfing the net when I should really be in bed, I just found this website Real Savvy Moms, it's focus is to support, educate and inform women on preconception, pregnancy and parenting.

At a quick glance I saw message boards, blogs and momcasts. They also have a television series. Real Moms, Real Stories, Real Savvy™"

Looks interesting and I'd like to check it out some more, since I'm a nurse and obstetrics is my field. I like what they are offering.

The Shabby Chic would also look nice as a little girls birthday party invitation of course it would be better if it was done vertically, that way the text would fit better. Packaging Idea

I'm almost done with the babysitter note pads for the Stork Baskets, I'll post some pictures. I am hoping I receive the blank oval label samples that I requested to test out an idea I have for packaging my products. I've been searching for blank oval labels with no luck, up until recently, yeah! I just hope these are the size I'm looking for. I've already tried quite a few different ways to package my items - see through plastic boxes, cellophane bags with ribbon/raffia, shrink wrap, and right now I am using the clear bags with the flaps, but they are missing something, they just look too plain! So, now I have an idea I'd like to test, on one of my previous orders I partially created the idea but didn't have the labels... wish I had. I've been told and read that how you package products makes a statement about your business, it's fun and impressive to see that someone took the time to pretty-up your order and I agree, from personal experience. What are your thoughts, does it make a difference to you?

On a side note, I am working on some birth announcements and thinking about Christmas. I think I am going to add a little something extra to the Christmas cards and invitations, need to start working on those ideas, so I'll be heading out to the paper store soon. I want to be able to have some up on the website by the first week in September...We'll see.

I have three little ones actually four if you count my hubby - ha ha, shhhh don't tell.

The Parent Station Contest-Baby Stork Baskets

Good news, I received an email from The Parent Station regarding the Baby Stork Baskets and the note pads were accepted ! I'll be sending 4 of the babysitter's note pads for the drawing which starts in October, there will be a total of 4 baskets that will be given way to pregnant mom. This should be fun. I will post the details of how to enter the contest when I receive them.

I've been working late tonight creating a new product - Babysitter Note Pads! I want to be able to participate in a Stork Basket Giveaway from the Parent Station that's coming up soon. Originally, I offered baby shower fill-in invitations, but the prize might not reach the mommas in time, so I scrambled to think of what would be appropriate and I thought the pads would be cute! We'll see I emailed Rachael again, so I'm hoping I'll hear good news from her. I'll post the details when I know more. Oh yeah, here's a pic of the pad.

Website Changes

Lately my website seemed cluttered and confusing with all the categories and subcategories I had. So late last night I made some changes that I hope make it easier and fun for my customers to shop.

Fun Fact- Stationery vs. Stationary

Which is it stationery or stationary? The word stationery is a commonly misspelled word.
Stationery refers mostly to paper and envelopes. It also applies to pens, note pads, erasers, etc.

Stationary is an adjective and means immobile or unmoving.

Wool felt flower pins..so pretty!

Lately, I've been admiring those pretty wool felt flower pins and decided to create some myself.
If you haven't seen them they are very cute and look great on purses, shirts, etc. There are many different ways to design them as well.

So, I purchased some wool felt fabric in many colors and I've been having lots of fun making them. I've been working on different designs to see which one I like the best and I think I have a winner. I'll be posting some pictures soon.
